"Good manners will open doors that the best education cannot."

 -Clarence Thomas

GATE (GIfted and Talented Education) is an academic program that concentrates on the problem-solving process not just content. The program develops the skills of analysis, synthesis, evaluation, as well as creative, productive, and divergent thinking.  Flexibility, inquiry, discovery, investigation, and creativity are all emphasized.  Our program does not focus just on “right” answers nor the amount of information memorized.

Students who qualify for GATE receive 150 minutes per week of pull-out instruction during the school week with other peers from their grade level who also qualify for gifted education services. Students learn about topics not often presented in the regular classroom and work on problem-based hands-on projects as well as participating in arts integrated projects.

Expected Conduct:

*Students will make every effort to arrive to class on time.

*Students will walk quietly in the hallway while traveling to and from the classroom.

*Students will come to class prepared with all supplies and all work completed to the best of their ability.

*Students will ask questions when they don’t understand assignments.

*Students will engage in discussions about the subject being taught with Mrs. Steele and their fellow classmates.

*Students will respect the opinions of others in the classroom.  They do not have to agree with these differing opinions, but must always respect others differences.

*Students will use proper inside voices while in the classroom.

*Students will always try to represent themselves, wherever they go, as role models for others.
